School Days, School Days

For children in Haiti this week was spent getting back in the routine of School after enjoying a Christmas break, just as it was for many of your children.
I thought you might enjoy getting a glimpse of the JBA-Haiti mission school.

School begins at 7 am. Children are given a simple breakfast of bread & butter (peanut butter if we have any) or bananas or eggs. Morning exercises include a flag- raising and singing patriotic songs, as well as prayer and devotions.

Our school has 7 classes-
pre-K through grade 5-
with 170 children enrolled.
These children would not be able to attend school if JBA didn't have a school in Bercy. Their parents would not be able to afford sending them into town to a school. Many wouldn't be able to feed their children.

Children are taught in their native Creole.
They learn the basic subjects and French.
All of our teachers are Christians. We emphasize to them that loving these little ones and teaching them about Jesus is just as important as any of their lessons.

The 3 youngest classes meet in a shed- roof addition on the side of the school.
Children are fed a lunch of rice and beans and given a vitamin before they go home for the day. A sick child or a child with an empty stomach can't concentrate or learn.
Children are given a school uniform to wear each day, as most do not have clothes for school. We also try and fit each one with a pair of tennis shoes for school as they must walk on a rough, rocky dirt road to come.

You are, in response to God's call, meeting the spiritual, the educational, and the physical needs of many children in the village of Bercy.
Thank you for hearing and answering His call.
