Haiti--Days Three and Four (and Five's Forecast)

Sitting down on the job???? Not hardly!!! This is the job. The orphanage now has two (soon to be three) new sofas. Anyone want to volunteer to come down and sew the cushions??? The guys did a marvelous job on these and the benches were put into immediate use for the birthday party we had for the November birthday children on Saturday evening. There was a sheet cake with candles, three rounds of "Happy Birthday," cupcakes for all the children, and balloons for all. This child was overcome when one of the balloons popped and Papa Mitch swooped her up and continued to hold her until she fell asleep. Talk about the actions of God in the real world.

Sunday was our day of worship and rest. The church service started with singing and then baptism. What an awesome event to gather around new believers to witness their outward devotion to Jesus. After the baptism was more singing...we heard from the men, the women, a women's quartet, one child, we sang a couple of our songs, and the congregation together sang many hymns. Pastor Mitch then spoke to the group and Cenor translated for him.

Afterwards, we had lunch and packed up the the children to go to the beach. This is the outing of the week for both children and adults. Swimming, playing ball, looking for shells and rocks and exploring God's creation...we saw crabs, a starfish, conches, and a puffer fish. Each of these creatures were brought up out of the water for us to see, touch, and hold (if desired). Amazing works of God.

Day five holds promise of lots of productive activity. It is now only 7:45am and the men are already building, the women are sewing, Mrs. Gloria has already seen several patients, the school has been in session and we are all geared up for a great day. We will visit the school today and hand out shoes. We do appreciate your continued prayers for us. It is a wonderful blessing for us to be the hands and feet of Jesus to Haiti this week.
