Mornings in Haiti (by Shelly)

Mornings in Haiti are my most favorite times. People who know me will have a hard time believing that as I am certainly NOT a morning person! But in Haiti, life is so much different. (Okay, that is a complete understatement!). When you know you are going to wake up to a sight like this, I can't imagine anyone staying in bed past 5:45 am! It is a sight that is almost unbelievable to the eyes and it fills your heart with a song. It helps when a 6 year old comes to join you on the stairs and begins to sing Jesus Loves Me with her whole heart! :) Precious beyond words really.

After enjoying an early morning sunrise, I always make my way down the rest of the staircase (sometimes with kids already hanging onto me, other times alone) and sit on the concrete in expectation for bathtime (the kids ... not mine!). Soon, the little ones begin to arrive and get ready to bathe and brush their teeth. There is nothing like it. The kids get all squeeky clean and smell great (yes really, so what if it only lasts a little while!) ... and I get to love on them for a little while before breakfast and school.

It is especially enjoyable to watch as the little guys make adorable faces as the water is being poured over their heads. Certainly a fun moment for me!

Time we spend at the orphanage with these amazing children is time treasured. We've grown to love each and every one of them and cannot wait to see them again this summer. (Pictured above: Dada, Islanda, Clifford, Dourison, and KC; and pictured below is Wanna). If you ever get the chance to head down on a trip, know that it will be a life-changing experience for you! And if you cannot get away and spend time at the orphanage, consider helping with a project to make life even more enjoyable for God's precious little ones!

James 1:27: "Religion that God the Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after

orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted

by the world"
