Thanks for all your prayers. Rusty's parents are both out of the hospital and doing better now, and I am adjusting to the meds the Dr. has prescribed for migraines and high blood pressure. We really appreciate all who stepped up to the plate to help out- especially the ladies at Crown Point Baptist who worked so diligently (with no help from me!) to put together a wonderful summer curriculum for the school.
We only have a few days left in the US, but hopefully we'll be able to spend a little time catching you up on all things Haitian!
In conversations with Micheline, our orphanage director, she tells us that Natalie (remember her, the little girl that had been abandoned at market and was brought to us by the Cabaret police) is still with us, has settled in and is much calmer. She will be leaving us soon as she has special needs that we are not staffed to handle (possibly deaf-mute as well as other exceptionalities). When we get necessary paperwork from Cabaret she will be going to stay at Cazale with fellow missionaries Lori & Licia.
Micheline also says we have 2 new additions, a 4 or 5 year old boy, who was also abandoned in Cabaret and brought to us by the Cabaret police. We don't know his name yet, since he either can't or won't tell anyone! But Micheline assures me he is in relatively good health and doesn't have any special needs that we can't meet.
We also have a year old baby who is severely malnourished due to the family's inability to properly care for him. We will keep this baby for the family, loving, feeding and caring for him until he has recovered. Hopefully, he will be able to return to his family at some future time.
Does anybody know someone who would like to sponsor a child? We need sponsors for these 2 as well as others we are already caring for. And a great big hug and kiss to those of you already sponsoring children - as you can see it really is the difference between life & death for most of them.
This is a picture Sarah took from the airplane as we were flying over our beautiful Caribbean home. The large tin-roofed building at the bottom is the orphanage. The slightly smaller one just above it is the church pavilion and the long skinny one to the right of that is the school. Pretty amazing, Huh?
