Fantastic Fridays

On Fridays we have services at the "piti tent" or little church with the people of the mountains nearby. It's a favorite day for the hardy team members to hike up the mountain and worship together with these special folks.

The path is narrow and rocky, mostly winding through fields and pastures.

One room houses made of sticks or mud dot the way up.
In some places the path is narrow and lined with stick bushes, while in others it opens onto an almost desert-like scene, bone-dry with cactus trees.

We often pass farmers & their cows or donkeys, or those going down to our well to draw buckets of water. They are amused to see our white faces on their mountain. They are usually very friendly sometimes offering a watermelon to our group.

The distance is only a couple of miles and the slope is not too terribly steep, but we're always glad when the church is in sight. The terrain is rugged and it is very hot.

The view at the top is worth the trip up! Mountains beyond mountains before you, and behind see the sun glinting off the tin roof of the church & orphanage... and beyond that the crystal blue Carribean. Breathtaking. (and just as you're catching your breath!)

The church has already gathered and put tarps in place for a little shade and placed some wooden benches around for their special guests. There will be a lot of special music today!

Young and old, dark-skinned and light, all gather together to worship and sing praises to the God who loves us, died to save us, and yet now He lives!

This Friday is very special because our December Team has brought Bibles to give to these precious people of Terre Noir. There is much to celebrate today!

God is so good, He's so good to me.
