Today is election day in Haiti. It is a very controversial election of a new Senate. It's a time of uncertainty and even fear among many.

This is what the presidential election looked like three years ago. There was hope for a better time after many years of unrest, instability and upheaval. That election was also plagued with controversy and corruption.

In a land where tanks and assault weapons are a common sight on every street corner and violence is a way of life, there is always concern for what may happen if the popular candidates are not elected.

This election is no different.
There is a fear that the street riots and violent protests will begin again- that this short period of relative calm will come to an abrupt halt.

Haiti and her people are still reeling from the disasters that visited last year... unparalleled increases in food prices, manifestation & violent protests in response to deepening poverty, school collapses, and 4 hurricanes in 3 weeks causing widespread flooding and leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless.

In an effort to maintain control, private vehicles are banned from travel today. Businesses are ordered closed. Church services are cancelled. Missionaries have prepared to hunker down and wait out the uncertainty. Food staples are stored. Drums of diesel & gas tanks filled.
Pray for peace.
